Georg Wilhelm von Mallinckrodt (b1930 in Germany) began his career with Schroders in 1954 with the J. Henry Schroder Banking Corporation in New York. In 1958 he married Charmaine Brenda Schroder (b1935), daughter of Helmut Schroder (1901-1969). GWM was appointed to the board of J. Henry Schroder Wagg in 1967, and served on the board of Schroders plc from 1977 to 2008. He was executive chair of Schroders plc from 1984 to 1995, and its president from 1995. During this period he oversaw the expansion of Schroders' overseas presence, the sale of the J. Henry Schroder Banking Corporation and the purchase of Wertheim in New York in 1986, and the sale of the investment banking arm of the firm to Citigroup in 2000. He was closely associated with the World Economic Forum from the 1970s onwards, and with the Interfaith Foundation through the 1990s and 2000s, as well as numerous other charities and external entities. In 1997 he was appointed an honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 'recognition of outstanding services rendered over many years to banking and finance in the City of London'.
